A historically significant place of pilgrimage for equality and democracy, Selma is becoming the technology center of the Blackbelt Region with a strong and growing economy and easy access to major transportation hubs.
After being impacted by tornadoes in 2023, the city engaged planningNEXT to create a long-term recovery plan that would also provide a strategic look at land-use.
The project logo and branding uses color and symbolism to portray hope, healing, progress and action as they engage stakeholders and citizens in promoting the new plan for the city.
The logo and branded PowerPoint template feature abstracted elements of the city’s infamous Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Alabama River to represent connection, progress and the duality between past and present. Bright blues and yellows were chosen as the primary colors to compliment the city’s seal and to evoke a sense of optimism and lightness that contrasts the bold, action-oriented typography.
